Minor Threat – Look Back and Laugh

Minor Threat — Look Back And Laugh

So today I’m posting one of my favourite bands; it’s Minor Threat, an american hardcore punk band from Washington DC formed in 1980. Although their life as a band was brief yet it had a strong influence in the posterior hardcore scene. It’s also known for being the start point for the Straight Edge movement. I don’t know for how long I’ve been listening to them, but I’ve recently been listening to a lot of the old school hardcore, and Minor Threat’s been playing a lot. I love all their songs, they are an energic discharge of what was inside of their head. Look Back And Laugh is one of my favourites, I couldn’t tell you exactly why, maybe because I understand the lyrics as something I can relate to… Oh, growing up!

Gene Wilder – Pure Imagination

Pure Imagination - Gene Wilder

Gene Wilder has always been one of my heroes and this song is a facet of my childhood. Listening to it often brings chills to my spine because it hits so close to home. I’d definitely label myself as the creative type and there’s just something perfect about being told as a child (and as an adult) that the world is yours to change. The world is only as you perceive it and you can change those perceptions if you put your mind to it.

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it. Wanta change the world? There’s nothing to it…

I listened to a lot of covers even though I had no doubt that I’d choose the original. Rosie even found this fantastic instrumental version which is just dreamy. I’ll be traveling a lot this summer with her and we are going to shoot a music video for this song. She’s going to record a cover and I’ll film her singing it in every city we’re traveling to. At the end of our trip I’ll compile it all together and I can only hope that it will turn out as magical as the original.

7Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together

I just waited for the right time to post this band here on Soundboard, and seems like the day has come because I’m seeing them very soon!

7Seconds is one of the longest standing bands in the hardcore scene. They have been active since their formation in 1980, so it’s been three decades of music and gigs before I’ve had the pleasure to find their music. And here I am, still not believing I am actually going to sing this song with them. I mean, not with them, obviously, just singing in the same room as them. Aaah yes! I just hope they play all the old songs because I find their old stuff better, especially their first albums.

What I like about this band, is the positive message they transmit with their songs, inviting people to stay united. That’s what this song is about.

Have a nice Thursday!

I'm From Barcelona – We're From Barcelona

I’m From Barcelona - We’re From Barcelona

I’ve been working on a Europe playlist for when I leave the country in June. The concept of the playlist is all songs with a city or region name in the title of the places I’m going. As I’ve been searching I’ve found some great songs by artists I love and even more from unfamiliar ones. Spotify has been an awesome tool for this. I really encourage everyone looking for more music to come up with a theme and just start looking for music that fits, you’d be surprised how much is out there to discover. Barcelona alone came up with 34 title results. There were songs from Queen to Rufus Wainwright to Peter Bjorn and John.

In the end I stumbled upon this song and it had to be my choice for Barcelona. I had never heard of I’m From Barcelona before but apparently it’s a 29 person Indie Pop band… that’s from Sweden… I’ve been listening to more of their stuff but this one is still my absolute favorite.

This one’s dedicated to Viu since ♪she’s from Barcelona♫.

Dreams do come true. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Shame I am short and I had to jump to see the dudes play.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

I went under a general anaesthetic for the first time in my life today; as I was coming round the words to Comfortably Numb were teasing my brain and even under all the weight of the sedatives I thought to myself: ‘that would be perfect for Soundboard tonight’.

It was such a bizarre and wonderful feeling, being forced into sleep. The best feeling was when they woke me up; it somehow felt exactly like when you’re so exhausted that when you lie your head on the pillow and feel the exact moment as you drift off… but in reverse. I’m feeling pretty groggy now but by all means extract my other two wisdom teeth just so I can get that feeling again…
